The middle class is rapidly disappearing. It's becoming rich or poor with no middle ground. That's the trend I see.
A big problem is that salaries are not keeping up with the rising cost of living, particularly in Florida.

Definitely!

It's all in what you define as a "better lifestyle." Is it life expectancy, debt ratio, free time, luxuries, air quality, health care costs etc.

To compare apples & apples (same ethnic background, education level, and value system), I think my comparative income and standard of living is pretty much equal or just slightly higher than my parents was at the same age.
