Beach Comber
I was just curious. We were down there the week of 4th of July and I was kind of surprised about the lack of marine life and birds. I was expecting all kinds of shells, hermit crabs, fish when we snorkled etc. but didn't see any at all. Also thought it was kind of strange that I didn't see any seagulls. Usually on a beach you can't open a bag of chips without being attacked. Was I just missing something or is it like that all the time?

I've never had a problem with seagulls on the beach unless some moron was feeding them. If you don't feed them they won't bother you.

There are never shells on the beach here..just squeaky white sand for the most part. This area is known more for ghost crabs than hermit crabs. And most folks around here know that with feeding seagulls comes poo-ing seagulls so we dont feed them.

There's a sandbar further out that prevents shells from coming ashore. You can find some after a storm because occasionally some waves bring some in.

Not sure why you didn't see much sea life. Maybe they were afraid of the crowds.
We see plenty of pelicans, different types of fish even jumping out of the water.
They must have stayed home that week or couldn't find a rental.

Maybe you were on the beach at an odd time or the fireworks scared them away - I've never gone to the beach w/out seeing some type of wildlife! :idontno:

All the shore birds seem to find someplace less crowded to vacation in the summer. The ghost crabs are still around, though.

They were all at Margaretaville.
