Himalayan Glaciers aren't melting after all

Turns out that the Himalayan Glaciers aren't melting.

Surprise. The IPCC read it in a magazine article 8 years before their report was made and just included the conclusion in their 'report'.

There's just not much real science behind the AGW hucksters...

A WARNING that climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035 is likely to be retracted after a series of scientific blunders by the United Nations body that issued it.

Two years ago the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) issued a benchmark report that was claimed to incorporate the latest and most detailed research into the impact of global warming. A central claim was the world's glaciers were melting so fast that those in the Himalayas could vanish by 2035.

In the past few days the scientists behind the warning have admitted that it was based on a news story in the New Scientist, a popular science journal, published eight years before the IPCC's 2007 report.

It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.

Hasnain has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research.

(Emphasis added by me.)

However, glaciologists find such figures inherently ludicrous, pointing out that most Himalayan glaciers are hundreds of feet thick and could not melt fast enough to vanish by 2035 unless there was a huge global temperature rise. The maximum rate of decline in thickness seen in glaciers at the moment is 2-3 feet a year and most are far lower.........so the glaciers are melting

Some are melting, some are growing. How do you account for that? I think the science is imperfect, so we shouldn't be making any rash decisions.

Good point savvy 30A debater,

I always thought that myself. I would like to examine scientific reports myself and see what they're based on instead of just wolfin down what somebody says.

Hello everybody else on the thread, I can't comment on what Ya'll said cause I only allow my brain so many minutes in a day to think:wave:

perhaps all scientists could have a disclaimer of political affiliation. foreign scientist could undergo a tribunal of trial by fire or racking.

I'm still trying to figure out how presenting as fact that they will all be gone (ie Melted) in 35 years with absolutely no scientific research to back it up is just an oops that should be overlooked.

I guess its all a part of the 'settled science' and 'consensus' about AGW.

Someone basing a prediction on data that turns out to be incorrect does not mean that the prediction is 100% false and the opposite is now true.

The glaciers are still melting and it is a concern, it is just not happening at the rate some guy pulled out of his arse.

Guess What... Himalayan glaciers are GROWING!!!

Yep. It's really "inconvenient" when the truth gets in the way. Check it out yourself!:lolabove:

Here's another link that also shows the Polar Bear population is also GROWING...:floor:

Easy now all you Global Warmers... summer will be here in a few months!:bang:
