The Roots of White Anxiety

New posts
I guess my lack of anxiety is due to me not thinking that anyone of a different ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexuality automatically thinks differently from me and cannot represent me properly.

And any photo of the Supreme court still looks awful white to me - protestant or not.

A couple of things that are interesting from the article:

At one time, those working-class whites were the heart of the Democratic party. They elected Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, etc.... Have they been left behind by their party's values and just don't realize it?

I'd be interested in the reaction of those same liberals if someone intimated that a wise white, male Supreme Court Nominee of European ethnicity might have the advantage of thinking more like the framers of the Constitution did, since they were wise, white males of European ethnicity. The left's reaction would be immediate, vitriolic and over-the-top to such an occurrence.

Yet, such as statement would be in the same vein as and just as insulting and just as racially prejudiced as Sotomayor's statement. (For some reason, her statement appeared to draw no liberal backlash. )

There's apparently no place for rational thought in our political processes anymore.
obviously, at least to some, there is the backdrop of american history, in all it's racist, male oriented glory, to provide some context to her statement.

Darn it, I thought this was the SoWal Lounge. I am having some white root anxiety and need a hairdresser stat.

I am just white and anxious all the time. Like that damn white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland- I tend towards the nervous.

Let's go shopping sometime!

Barack Obama's not a foreign-born Marxist hand-picked by a shadowy liberal cabal?

:lolabove: Of course not!...he's a baby that was born in Hawaii while his grandma was watching it all from Kenya before he was hand picked by a much more illuminated force...the clueless!

Oh gosh, even a teenager would be able to with one word counter the argument of the so called underrepresented student applicant, and it's football. Duh!

What I find very interesting about articles like this is the lake of actual statistics and pointing out what really goes on.

Percentage wise, yes more minorities do receive scholarships and in many cases push out white candidates. The part that is never pointed out is that the white candidates (poor or otherwise) generally comprise a much larger pool. In other words a very large percentage from a very small pool of minorities may make it while a very low percentage from a very large pool of white students won't make it.

As someone who has seen the actual admissions process in action I can assure you that there's not a NAACP conspiracy at work here. The fact is that when two students with the same credentials, who are financially disadvantaged, are competing for one spot the candidate from the smaller minority almost always wins. This isn't based on race, law, or some deep liberal conspiracy. It comes down to money and the candidate who has the potential to bring in the most scholarship money will win every time.

Guess who wins in the following scenario:

Black student with excellent grades from a financially disadvantaged background vs. a white student in a wheel chair with the same grades from a financially disadvantaged background.
