Dallas Texas Ebola Case

My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people, not all of them but most of them, who are still basing their decisions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists. And the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants president Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as Commander-in-Chief, as President, and everything to do with the color of his skin. And that’s despicable

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, chief of staff to Colin Powell

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. ... My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.

Mitt Romney, May 2012

Romney's statement is especially disturbing because I'm old enough to remember when poverty was the enemy not the poor.

Seriously, you still falling for that Lawrence Wilkerson is a Republican lie? The dude endorsed Democrats in 2006. Listening to MSNBC is just as dangerous to Dems as Fox is to the right wingers. Wilkerson went off the reservation years ago.

As for the Mitt comments, dumbest statement in the last 20 years of politics. Lost him the election.

I genuinely hope the confident posters belittling concerns about Ebola are correct. Thru 20+ years as a critical care physician I have been frequently reminded to be very humble about how much we know about infectious diseases and predicting the course of serious illness. Over the last couple of weeks, CDC director Dr. Frieden has made repeated absurd and factually incorrect statements, all with a bias towards minimizing concerns of potential danger. This makes me very nervous. I can't believe he is an idiot but that would be a better explanation than he is intentionally misleading the public. We will know in a week or two whether those exposed to the two nurses become infected. In the meantime arrogant pronouncements about the future seem premature. Keep the affected nurses and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

No one is belittling concerns, we are all concerned about this devastating disease. We, or I should say I, am belittling the encouragement of widespread panic by the media. I don't feel it aids the public, it just helps ratings.
