Hurricane Danielle Strengthens in Atlantic

NASA / AP Photo

The strongest tropical storm of the season so far, Danielle, was upgraded to a Category 4 hurricane Friday morning, with winds reaching up to 135 miles per hour. It is currently over 500 miles south east of Bermuda and could hit Florida and the Eastern Seaboard by Labor Day, with swells from Danielle expected to hit the U.S. later today. But even if Danielle somehow steers clear of the East Coast, weather patterns suggest that the floodgates could open for more storms. ?I?m beginning to feel more and more confident that the Gulf and Florida will become targets for hurricane strikes as we approach and move through the Labor Day weekend,? one senior meteorologist said. ?Once this trough is removed, the U.S. seaboard along with the Gulf will be under the gun.?

What a joke, This is the 'news organization' equivalent of link bait. Get a high placement in google news and sell some ad views.

FBB,
I never thought of that.... Kurt and Teresa should change the name of SoWal to "We're all gonna die!" That should attract some traffic....

Whoever was pulling data off the National Hurricane Center website has zero reading comprehension and writing skills. If you follow Atlantic tropical weather, you can see what it seems like the writer was trying to go, but they skipped like 8 different steps in explaining conditions, leading to the massive wrongness

1. It's looking like a very active Cape Verde season, with multiple storms rolling across the open Atlantic

2. First one is Danielle, which is going to recurve east of Bermuda, but will bring rough surf conditions to the East Coast of the US

3. Next up is Tropical Strom Earl, which is going to make it decidedly further westward than Danielle. To quote the latest NHC bulletins on Earl:

SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT...

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR...
* SAINT MARTIN AND SAINT BARTHELEMY
* ANTIGUA...BARBUDA...MONTSERRAT...ST. KITTS...NEVIS...AND ANGUILLA
* ST. MAARTEN...SABA...AND ST. EUSTATIUS

A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA...GENERALLY WITHIN 48 HOURS.

Models are currently calling for Earl to recurve after brushing the Leeward Islands and finding a weak spot that will pull it poleward

4. The third part of the current Cape Verde train is the one to watch- NHC says that Invest 97 out by the CV islands proper has about a 80% chance of turning tropical within the next 48 hours. It's Invest 97/future Fiona that is the concern because the same conditions that are pulling Danielle and set to pull Earl really northward over relatively open water may not still be present by the time Fiona gets across the pond.

I think you mean that Florida is 200 miles west of Bermuda, but we know what you are saying. With those three storms, they are all pushing towards Florida, but the models show them turning north for all three, before while still out in the Atlantic, probably not hitting Florida directly, but I think the push from each of those storms will cause some major waves hitting the east coast of Florida with strength.

Where did I put that surfboard?
