Dog carrier/dog on 98

I posted this in the general discussion as well but it would also be good to post it here.
I was driving west on 98 right past Bay Drive when I had to dodge something in the road. Once I got past it, I realized it was a big broken dog carrier.
When I looked into my rear view mirror I could see something underneath it. I think it may have been a dog.
I guess it might have fallen out of the back of someones truck or something. This is really, really sad. And no one was stopped or anything, so I assume that the person either didn't realize it or for some reason didn't care.
I thought I would post this to just say, be careful. It broke my heart to see that, a poor dog doesn't deserve that, so I'm really hoping that no one did it on purpose.
If someone that any of you know is missing their dog out of the back of their truck or anything, or hear something about it, I just thought I'd post this to get the word out there.
:(

Needless to say I'm sure the dog was dead. So sad. Cannot understand someone not noticing that falling out of their vehicle. That is what a load lock is for, it keeps things like that from moving.

We were riding down 85 and saw a pickup with a dog crate with a dog inside in the back. The strap that was supposed to secure the crate had become unlocked. We flagged down the driver, he pulled over, and we saw him in the rear view mirrors get out and start to fix it. I feel really good that we saved that dog's life.

On a tangential but somewhat related note, did you hear about the mom who was arrested because she and her boyfriend were driving with her baby in a stroller in the back of his pickup?
