guess we should move the last part of this thread to the lounge ;-)

Thank you GB...I hadn't even noticed where we were!!!! And to think I used to be a board monitor! I have fallen and I can't shut up!!!!

We sometimes fly into Pensacola en route to Grayton, where we loved Mrs. Hopkins' Boarding House, in old town. It was famous when I was growing up, family style lunches and dinners and the best fried chicken ever. You could ask for "pullie bones" and they would bring out an entire basket. Lots of the best veggies and southern breads, but revolting desserts. No one "in the know" would eat the dessert. And if you sit at the big tables, it is almost guaranteed that you will run into someone from your past or someone who knows someone you do in some remote location. Reviewed in the "Road Food" section of "Gourmet Magazine" several years ago.

Anyway, I heard that they closed to do some long needed work on the house and the kitchen. Does anyone know if Mrs. Hopkins' Boarding House has reopened? My husband is Michigan Yankee who loves that woman's fried chicken!

We used to eat at Hopkin's House in P'cola when I was a kid growing up in Andalusia, AL. I am sorry to say that it closed recently. I believe the mother (or grandmother?) died. It broke my heart to hear that. It was as if a part of my past died too. It still makes me sad to think about it not being there anymore.

Anyone have any recommendations for the Atl/Columbus/Eufaula/Dothan route?

The name of the resturant in Eufala is, Country Cafe and Cakery. My husband says the fried chicken is mmmmmmmmm good. I got veggies and the collards were primo.
