Foraging Groups?

Is it legal to forage for edible/medicinal/useful plants, berries, nuts, and fungi in the state forest and/or WMAs?

If so are there any local foraging groups?

My whole family was almost arrested in Texas because i picked a tiny palm frond out of the state forest. Federal agents. Don't do it.

I think it's allowed activity on Eglin Reservation land. Phone number I've found for the Jackson Guard office (manages recreation and wildlife for Eglin) is 882-4164.
