Gov Scott has a Change of Heart

..by negatively impacting the lives of people who honorably purchase these drugs. There are two sides to every coin.

How exactly are they negatively impacted?

I very much doubt that anyone who is "honorably purchasing these drugs" is doing so with cash payments and no prescription.

That means records and a paper trail already exist - because a licensed physician recorded and produced a physical prescription, that was verified by a licensed pharmacist at a pharmacy, that is probably part of a chain with computerized records, and odds are that they used insurance and/or a government program to reduce their costs.

Existing laws prevent anyone from finding out WHY these people are using these drugs without getting a court order.

So what is the harm?

None of this information has names attached to it. Medical records are heavily protected, what goes on between you and your doctor is between you and your doctor. With the drug database, the government of the state of florida will be tracking the drugs you and I purchase, they will also share that data with other states. Law enforcement will have access to the data. (Do they have to go to a judge for that?) You trust these governments to not abuse this information? What if mistakes are made? It's a principal issue for me, I don't feel government should have data like this.

I think it is so cute that you think the government doesn't ALREADY have much more personal information.

My medical records are accessed either through my name and date of birth or my social security number (because that's how my insurance company keeps track of it).

And I'm not on Cobra, Medicare, Medicaid, a federal employee, or a Veteran so they don't already have a direct link.

It is because medical records are protected that I am less concerned about this - I made the suggestion months that they should just classify airport body scans as medical info and solve any privacy concerns that way.

Good move Scotty--guess he now knows how rough it can be to continually have to plead the fifth, as in his last deposition.
