Habitat of Walton County - Fall build update

New posts

Camellia

Beach Fanatic
Howell Ave

Thanks to a small but hard working groups of volunteers, HFH finished the preparations at the Howell Street building site. We are now ready for the clearing contractor.

Firewood: On Saturday we cut about 5 cords of Firewood that are still on the ground. Wood is available on a first come first serve basis. If we have run out and you have a chain saw please call Bill Rennicke at 850 598 9449 and we may be able to identify some hardwood trees that could be cut down.

Workday Tuesday October 19 and Saturday October 23; 8AM start:

Location: 621 N. 20th St., Defuniak Springs. From intersection of 331 and 90 go left (West) about one mile and then right on 20th street. Habitat is renovating one of the first Habitat Houses for the a new Partner family and children. We will be removing some fixtures and installing a limited amount of new sheet rock and repairing the exterior doors. We need 10 to 15 volunteers each day. On Saturday HFH will begin painting the house.

House #21 - 165 Argyle Church Road:

House will be delivered on November 12 and we will finish setting the frame and roof on November 13. Please keep these dates open. This is the first of two houses being donated by a wonderful group of people from Sandestin and South Walton. Need help particularly on the 13th.

Thank you all for your help and support.

More updates - Call out for Volunteer Help

Volunteer Bill Rennicke sends out e-mails to the Habitat volunteers, and his latest update is quoted below. Please
help if you can.

"In the next two weeks we will likely have only six workdays to finish the rehabilitation of HFH House #2. Habitat has a wonderful partner family and they have to move out of their existing home on December 1. If you enjoying finish and painting work now is the time to join HFH for a workday or several. We are running out of time to finish House #2 for Ron and his family since on November 12, House #21 will be delivered and we will need to move our equipment and volunteer efforts there. So there is only 5 or 6 workdays that we have to finish preparing house #2 for Ron and his family. We really need your help over the next two weeks

Here are the workdays and likely work if we can get at least 3 or more volunteers to help (all work starts are at 8AM at 621 North 20th Street Defuniak Springs) :

1. Tuesday October 26 - Finish repair of sheet rock, some cleaning, repair of exterior doors, install 70 feet of backyard fence to enclose the yard and wall painting.
2. Thursday October 28 - Wall painting, rehanging of interior doors, installation of door hardware
3. Saturday October 30 - Wall painting, install 2 interior doors, installation of door hardware and closet hardware. Prep kitchen for cabinet installation.
4. Wednesday November 3 - Wall painting, installation of wall fixtures, door stops, mirrors
5. Saturday November 6 - Install Cabinets, Countertops, sinks, bathroom vanities, plumbing, clean up.
6. Wednesday November 10 - Install appliances, final clean up, yard clean up and outside repairs.

We need at least 3 volunteers to make a workday happen. Please call Bill Rennicke at 850 598 9449 or email at wrennicke@cox.net if you can make some or all of the workdays. Please be clear what days you can volunteer. I will tally up our availability and let you know if we have the critical mass to work that day.

Also mark on you calendars that on November 12 and 13 we will receive and set up the wall and roof on HFH House #21 at 165 Argyle Church Road in Defuniak Springs.

Thank you so much for all you do."
