Beach Fanatic
Hello Sowallers! As a longtime resident of Sowal and recent temporary transplant to Michigan, I must say it's refreshing up here and entertaining when they complain about traffic a couple weekends a year when there is a race at the Michigan International Speedway. This is dairy country and corn fields and I have never seen what I consider traffic. Ever!
When I have been home it has been off season. "Off season" is as allusive as the Choctawhatchee Beach Mouse. It's unbelievable to me, how much our little community has grown, especially since 1973 when my family moved to Dune Allen. Traffic may not be as hectic as Atlanta or NYC, but possibly just as dangerous due to the transient nature of our visitors, because they do not know where they are going, plus they are rubber necking. Then add the raging, over worked local. Insane!!
My home doesn't feel like home. I did not even get on 30A or go to the beach the last two trips to Old Pt. Washington. Growth is good, it brings much positive when the infrastructure keeps up with growth, but that is not the case in South Walton and it makes me so sad. So many locals have left the area or have 2nd homes elsewhere and elsewhere has become home. Thankfully there are a few locals who are thoughtfully working to make positive changes in our community and I am grateful. Keep up the good work and hopefully I will be home soon to a better South Walton.
I have missed this forum and the SOWAL peeps. Hope to hear from some of you!!
