High School Parents- Are Your Kids Registered for the ACT and SAT?

Yes, you really need to keep on top of the deadlines and applications and allow extra time!

And avoid postmarking things at the last minute - bad impression and makes it among the last received and more likely to get lost.

Papa Scooterbug hated the FAFSA - he felt it was unfair to people who didn't have debt. He said if he'd known how it was figured he'd have bought everyone in the family a new car and Mama Scooterbug an engagement ring before filling it out!

Now that the parents are mobilized it would be great to continue the momentum with a workshop dedicated to filling out the FAFSA form. If this hasn't been done it's a great way to assist in the financial aid process. This paperwork can be daunting for many.

I've seen too many cases through the years where a student was well qualified academically, but was unable to pull together the financing to go to the next level only because the appropriate paperwork was not in place.

I am almost certain that a rep from the community college would come out and do the workshop. They would just need to be asked.

I will be glad to arrange an "expert" from Gulf Coast--we have a terrific person who can do this. Anyone interested just PM me.

Let me know if you need any help with *shudder* financial aid. I used to do some of the presentations for SallieMae to prospective students. I don't work there anymore so I can tell you all the insider info.

There are so many great posts that I would like to respond to, but seeing that I would take up to much room I will just say....Start planning early. I thought my sophmore's 8th grade year was soon enough....but, like Beach Runner said start at the 6th. PLAN PLAN PLAN and stay on target.

I totally agree that the guidance office needs all the help they can get. Last year when the kids were pre-scheduling we had a very nice helper, but she missed the boat with K's schedule and it took all of the first week of school and and again a week of the 2nd semester to get it straightened out. The whole time she was a nervous wreck that she might not get the right classes.

So, I want to thank everyone who is helping them. I know they must really appreciate all the parents. I know I do.:bow::clap:

I do want to say many parents and teachers, as well as the administration, at Seaside Neighborhood School were a great help in the transition!

I am thinking that the seven-period day is going to be a vast help. While I luv luv luv the sound of a basketball bouncing and desperately want Squirt to keep playing, his academic schedule has been totally dependent on 2nd block varsity athletics PE. It may be the same way with seven periods, but at least then it won't be 25% of his curriculum.
