Jellyfish

I see on the SWFD website that the purple flags are flying because of jellyfish. Are there a lot of them? Are they the relatively harmless kind? We'll be in Seacrest in 3 days (YAY!!) and hope they will find their way back out to sea. I was stung 3x in one day back in October a couple of years ago. Makes getting in the water a little unnerving.

I just got back from about a 30 minute swim in Seagrove. I did not see any jellies at all. Likewise yesterday, none then either.
Of course, that is not to say they can't show back up at any time.
Last summer we had so many that the SWFD tends to leave the purple flag up, because they know they will probably be back.
Ask folks who have been in the water ahead of you, and have a good careful look around yourself before going in.

Typically they are more prevalent out toward the second sandbar. Their presence fluctuates but last year, as the summer wore on, their numbers greatly increased. Like stated, watch the flags and ask. Also, as you get further out, be aware and on the lookout.

I walked from Stallworth Lake to Ed Walline this morning and all I found was a Loggerhead turtle nest just East of the Stallworth public landing. I saw no jellies at all. Maybe Mike is right that they are just out a bit further.

The purple flag was gone Saturday afternoon by Dunes of Seagrove, don't assume the flag is gospel though.
