Motor Vehicle Fee Increases Approved by the Legislature

New posts

Chief Deputy TC

Attached is a spreadsheet identifying motor vehicle fee increases approved by the Legislature this session. The Senate Bill related to these increases is still pending the Governor's final approval. Please remember that no portion of these fees remain local, but are directed at the state's revenue funds.

You may read the full bill here:

Wow! Not great news, but thanks anyhow.:D

Now wrobert, you know its not a tax. Its a "fee" increase. There is a BIG difference although both are paid with currency. (sarcasm off)

Gov Crist said that Florida needed to learn to live within our means. What this means, is taxes are going up I guess.

Oh the conservatives giggle. A tax is generally unavoidable unless you live like a Native American, but a fee is something you can avoid. Don't like the increased fee? Get rid of your car and walk or bike everywhere. It's funny to me that when it comes to a DUI driving is a privilege, but when it comes to registration fees for a vehicle it's suddenly a god given right.

If the fee went to cover the cost of the service, fine. But when the fee goes to the general fund, that is a tax. I am against the cig tax and I do not smoke. I understand that registration fees need to go up to cover increased costs so no problem. But everyone, not just the car owners, need government. So we need to find a fair and equitable way to fund it. Personally, since I pay so little in property taxes, I will gladly pay this, I just wish more of it went to the count instead of to run State programs that have little effect in this area.

And if we are going to raise taxes, why did Gov Crist tell us we needed to live within our means?

Because he's a bobble head?
