Online Petition On Public/Private TDC Agreement

New posts
It's not a good idea to merge the organizations

It was my understanding that the TDC was set up as a public taxing entity. How would that work to merge with a private group?

Dawn Moliterno is a very competent Chamber President, but doesn't she already have more than enough on her plate? Sounds like the TDC would become another Chamber committee among many.

My questions exactly.

It seems very strange to me that a county government entity would want to give over control of its (perhaps) most valuable source of revenue to a private association...and it is hard to see how she would have time to do both jobs.

Both good questions. Here's another:

Is there no one on staff at the TDC that could fill in as Interim Director? Seems they are the ones with the experience in attracting tourists to the area, not the Chamber of Commerce, who I always thought was the association for the business community. Maybe in Walton County it is different than in other communities?

I would like to hear some answers from the County Commissioners:

What considerations were included in the discussion about how to handle this vacancy?

What do the members of the TDC Advisory Council think?

Who all was considered?

Was any present TDC staff person considered? Did Mr. Marnes not have an assistant director, or someone who filled in for him when he had to be away on business or was ill, or just wanted to take a vacation?

The petition still kicks to the 2nd page asking for money as of this morning.

Maybe I'm really dense, but I don't see what difference it makes. To me, it was obvious who was asking for the donation and it wasn't the WCTA. I am disappointed they were required to use member's funds to pay for something they thought was a "free" service. And, it was. But Bob Hudson, being the fair minded man he is, saw fit to pay them a "fee" to take down the second page. I don't think he should have done it. If someone can't figure out what a donation is and who its to, that's their problem. They always have the right to inquire of the proper source.

All you need to do is shut down the second page. The first one tells you your vote has been counted just before the second page pops up. Likely the second page is out of Bob's control. I just shut it down and it was done. Simple.

WCTA needs to get that fee back because the 2nd page, with iPetitions asking for donations to support them, is still there. I just signed.

As to being able to figure out who was asking for a donation, it seems that Yzarctoo didn't figure it out.

The TDC does indeed have a very competent staff and until this issue of the Chamber of Commerce helping in the search came up, the TDC council members had already asked the very able Tracy Louthain to act as the interim director, in much the same way Mares was interim director after Kriss Titus left. This entire episode does not pass the smell test. There is an a hidden agenda somewhere in here, although it was nice to see that the draft agreement between the county and Dawn Moliterno precludes her from applying for the position.

iPetitions is used by other organizations as a free means of enlisting support. I just received and signed another from my national professional college, one with thousands of members across the country and in fact the world. The default to the second page was identical to that from WCTA, In each case, a literate person should be able to discern for him or her self whether to donate or not. It is by giving such choices that some free services such as this exist. Give Bob a break. He's busting his butt for all of us.
