Palm tree in dumpster

In the work that's underway at Commodore's Retreat, they have had to remove a palm tree to make room for what looks like a water or gas main.

It's there in the dumpster. I have no idea if they'd object to someone taking it, but it IS in the dumpster, isn't it?

Nice healthy one, probably 12 to 15 feet tall, trunk about a foot in diameter, root ball intact.

Anybody feel ambitious?

Not me. I'm a palm tree hater. They all should be trucked away to where they came from.

Why do you hate them?

They are not native to this region. They are trucked in to give this illusion that we are a "tropical paradise". If you look around, you will see that Rosemary Beach planted some indigenous live oak trees, a long time ago, that are providing an awesome canopy. I was happily surprised to see Seaside plant a bunch of them around the amphitheater a few years ago. They will really start to take shape in a few years. And I just noticed, recently, how many oaks WaterColor and WaterSound have planted that are really starting to mature. It's funny how those trees, that have always been there, can sneak up on you.

P.S. I do love the palm trees of Alys Beach, but mainly because they are part of the overall statement of Alys Beach as a unique, exotic, international location.
