Here’s the point. When we don’t pay close attention to the decisions made by our leaders, when we fail to educate ourselves about the major issues of the day, when we choose not to make our voices and opinions heard, that’s when democracy breaks down. That’s when power is abused. That’s when the most extreme voices in our society fill the void that we leave. That’s when powerful interests and their lobbyists are most able to buy access and influence in the corridors of power –- because none of us are there to speak up and stop them.

...maybe like deregulating (Glass Stigal Act) the financial industry; the oil industry; the drug industry; portions of the insurance industry...the list goes on and on, and today we are living with the results.

well spoken by President Obama. it seems that the issues are so numerous and complex that its difficult to stay educated on them sometimes. it takes a lot of effort to really dig and find truth - behind the BS we're given on the news, blogs, soundbytes, extreme poltical posturing, outright misrepresentation/ lies shouted over the airwaves by politicians and talking heads, etc etc etc.

so, thanks to many of you who bring these issues to our attention here on SoWal along with good resource material.
