Questions about unemployment

And also tend to be boom and bust based on the season. Lots of folks that can will end up with a job in Destin-Ft Walton, PCB, or the big shipping distribution center in Mossy Head in the name of it being easier to pay bills from November through February because they're getting a good number of hours that time of year.
Granted it is feast or famine with the seasonality, but there is SO much work needed in season. Even as a business owner, I had to learn to be like a squirrel and not spend everything when the money is flowing in. Squirrel it away for the slow times and it evens itself out. Work really hard for 3 or 4 months and then enjoy the off season! Takes a little getting used to, but wouldn't trade it for the world!

Agree with you all, especially on the lack of affordable housing issue. That's my great business idea #2. (idea #1 was what started this thread). Find a tract of land (north of 98) and put in a bunch of Katrina cottages or nice mobile homes. Helping my employees find decent affordable housing is harder than finding the employees themselves! A lot of the big employers in PCB that recruit from out of the area (i.e. Jamaica, etc) are able to secure an entire small apt complex or small motel and provide housing for their workers. Double whammy for them, they have a pool of employees, and income from the rentals. I know a lot of them are also able to provide a van that provides them transportation to and from work. A lot of the employees I find that aren't able to live in SoWal or west end of the beach, don't have reliable transportation. I've ended up "buying" several vehicles and toting the note for good employees that are so hard to come by.
