Red State, Blue City

Yeah. I liked Jeb Bush better.

I don't think I would have supported a high speed rail, either, though. That corridor is served by an Eisenhower Interstate highway. In 25 years, we will have electric cars that drive themselves. And Amtrak isn't good at much of anything, except losing money. It's just a bad bet.

Miami to Orlando...Tampa to Orlando are perfect for high speed rail. Orlando will, in the end, be the largest city in Florida because it is not constrained on a side by water. The rail project had federal funding allotted, would have provided thousands of construction jobs, and would have move millions of tourists/citizens between these 3 large metro areas. The killing of the project was a political move, exactly like politicizing education and stealing from underpaid teachers. It was never a "bet". Drive interstate 4 or 95 and you can see the futility of our monodimensial thinking about how we move dense population from Ato B. This year I-4 through Orlando will be torn up so that toll lanes may prevail in the center of the road. The entire beltway around the city is one gigantic toll road. This a stupid, third world approach to transportation.
