RNC coming to Tampa in 2012

The Republican National Committee's site-selection committee is expected to name Tampa as site of the party’s 2012 convention today, top Republicans tell Playbook. The site-selection committee will announce a choice among three finalists: Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Tampa. The committee has made high-publicity visits to the top prospects, which put on the dog to show what they could do for the GOP.

Has anyone on SoWal ever been to a national convention? Any fond memories?

Yes, 1988 DNC in Atlanta - was an absolute blast. Also, got to meet VP George H.W. Bush at a rally just south of town at an Angus Farm. This, too, was a blast. I was too young to appreciate exactly where I was at both, but the fond memories would encompass (perceived) low security and able to shake hands without being frisked. For me then, it was like GA-FL game or Steeplechase......if you know what I mean.

If you have an opportunity to go, do it!

Not surprised to hear it. Salt Lake is a lovely place in the summer but Tampa has Mons Venus after all.

What is that phrase, "ignore an angry lefty a day.." ..or was that an apple? Not sure, both seem to have a positive impact on your life.

I think I might go just for the opportunity and experience. Something to tell the kids about and what not.
