Salt Lake Yesterday

got any pics?
Hi Kids,

After watching the Mormon Tab Choir we took an really cool hike http://www.nps.gov/tica/index.htm

Then on our way to Idaho (where I sit right now) we waded into the Salt Lake. 8 times saltier than the ocean . Very strange to say the least.

Today we head to Craters of the Moon, then to West Yellowstone. Oh, I forgot to tell you that the High was 95 at about 18% humidity  It really is a different kind of heat.

Nice! I lived in SLC for 3 years and loved it (especially that low humidity part). :D

Sounds like we went a very similiar route back in mid June but the weather was very different. It actually snowed on us at Old Faithful and was very very cold. While at Yellowstone we saw frozen lakes, snow drifts, mud pots, buffalo, grizzly bears, black bears and a few elk. It is a magical place. I only wish I had visited before the fires of 1988 destroyed much of the natural forest. Lodgepole pine is about the only species of trees that is making a comeback. I understand that there were a lot of moose before the fire but much of their habitat was destroyed. Check out Old Faithful Inn because it will take you back in time to a much more simple life. We really enjoyed that trip. Have lots of fun and take lots of pics.

We were in Yellowstone in June this year, stayed in Gardiner ,the people we rented from have a beautiful art studio, Elk River is the name of it.We went rafting with Montana White Water, had horse back riding and dinner at Hell's a Roaring dude ranch. It was an amazing vacation, grand sons didn't even miss video games. RO, I know your family must be having a great trip.

RO, sounds like a great trip. Hubby has been there many times on business, but I've never been anywhere out west other than Arizona, Nevada, and California.

Are you doing a "visit every state capital in the US" thing with your kids? Our best friends in GA actually did this with their two daughters and finished it before they both went to college. Pretty cool and educational.

Sorry, no time to do the pics thing yet. Everything has thawed in Yellowstone but the mornings are still in the 40's and high's right at 70. We hiked up to the top of Mt Washburn (10,500' or so). Started around 8,500'. We did find snow hanging on there and of course you can see snow on all the mtn peaks. Just amazing views from there.

Our last day in Yellowstone we found a place where the "Boiling River" (and I do mean boiling) flows into a beautiful river. You can sit and swim where the 2 meet. One foot will be ice cold and the other toasty warm. You can literally burn yourself if you get too close to the hot river. While were were putzin' around in the river a momma elk and her calf came to the river bank and munched on some greens. Just amazing.

Yesterday we arrived in Jackson Hole... WOW! I want to liver here now but can't afford the Super 8 so I guess The Nooga will have to do. We rafted the Snake River yesterday. Nearly froze but worth every shiver. Stunning! Then walked around town. Gotta be the coolest mtn town every. Still can't get adjusted to seeing folks wearing fleece in August but at times it's needed. 42 this morning while searching for coffee and internet. Riding horses in the Tetons today. Can't wait for that.
