Seaside Founder Robert Davis has a lot to do

I think the biggest problem with Seaside was a lack of smart future planning. They simply didn't expect the town to grow in popularity as much as it did or the popularity of SoWal in general. It's such a pretty place but I always feel a little guilty driving my car down through the middle of it. 98 traffic / parking issues really ruin the whole experience. They should have anticipated that and planned for it.

My understanding is that they tried to plan for traffic and have 30A re routed around the backside of the development, but the powers to be at the time would not allow it. Thus, it is in its current location.

I can understand the "powers that be" on that, I've always been a little miffed about that developer on scenic 98 that moved the highway away from the beach. But I think they could have worked around it, maybe by putting parking somewhere else, and maybe even located the center of the community away from 98. That massive crush in the center of town is always a mess and is probably a little dangerous for pedestrians.

I think it's all your perspective - compared to many places the idea that that many cars and pedestrians equals "traffic" is laughable.

There are a couple tweaks I think they should make - mainly getting rid of on-street parking along 30-A and improving the sight lines from streets perpendicular to 30-a, perhaps adding a non-latching gate to make people pause before entering 30-A from the beach side, but in general it works quite well.

Seaside did, initially, want to re-route 30-A, but I think that the fact that it runs thru it has actually been a positive thing. It has increased the general public's access and awareness of the town and kept it from being a "gated town". We all feel we can be a part of it and watch the activity of it all, even if we are just trying to drive to work.
