Looks like Obama is finally coming to his senses -

The Pentagon is about to pull its attack planes out of the international air campaign in Libya, hoping NATO partners can take up the slack.

The announcement Thursday drew incredulous reactions from some in Congress who wondered aloud why the Obama administration would bow out of a key element of the strategy for protecting Libyan civilians and crippling Moammar Gadhafi's army.

US ending its air combat role in Libya - Yahoo! News

Naturally John McCain is pissed, he must like blowing arabs up.

He played that role by approving it in the U.N. Security Council. Along with every other nation on that panel that voted for it.

"The Libyan War"

That's got a nice ring to it. I wonder if it has a Wikipedia page yet.. ah no, it's an "intervention" at this point.

2011 military intervention in Libya - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On 19 March 2011 a multi-state coalition began a military intervention in Libya to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, which was taken in response to events during the 2011 Libyan uprising.[18

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, on the situation in Libya, is a measure that was adopted on 17 March 2011. The Security Council resolution was proposed by France, Lebanon, and the United Kingdom.[1][2]
Ten Security Council members voted in the affirmative (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Gabon, Lebanon, Nigeria, Portugal, South Africa, and permanent members France, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Five (Brazil, Germany, and India, and permanent members China and Russia) abstained, with none opposed.[3]
The resolution demands "an immediate ceasefire" and authorizes the international community to establish a no-fly zone over Libya and to use all means necessary short of foreign occupation to protect civilians.[4]

So the resolution he voted for was proposed by France, Lebanon, and the United Kingdom and the items in the resolution that many are biotchin about were passed by unanimous consent in a Senate resolution. I make no secret I don't like our troops being the worlds police and I'm not defending this vote but this sounds like great many warhawks are being hypocritical.

Actually the Times does not reference the Senate Resolution introduced by Menedez (D) and Kirk (R)

It passed without a single dissention.

NationalJournal.com - Senate Passes Resolution Calling for No-Fly Zone Over Libya - Tuesday, March 1, 2011

"The Senate unanimously approved a nonbinding resolution on Tuesday calling for the United Nations Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Libya and urged Libyan leader Muammar el-Qaddafi to resign and allow a peaceful transition to democracy."

I have a problem with this no presidents in my life declaring war and this mandate BS.

But every senator voted AYE on this resolution.

Now your team wants to cut and run. :idontno:

Ah I see, this was about the U.N. passing the resolution, not about our military involvement in the war.

 My "team of one" didn't want to get involved militarily in Libya in the first place.

Nope, you said the action was without congressional approval.

To wit:

"Every military skirmish since then has been authorized by a congressional resolution. (Well, except one - our current war in Libya.)"

The irony of you quoting NY Times....priceless.

Make that your "team of two" and before some of you scream hypocrite because of Iraq, go back and see what I said about that invasion at the time.

If France was first country to recognize the rebels in Libya and the first country to bomb targets in Libya how did Obama start the war?
Perhaps I should use the word, "commence," as in under Obama's command, US troops commenced in bombing Libya. We don't have to be the first to pull the trigger to "start" a war. Don't try and deny that the USA has been bombing Libya under Obama's command.

One doesn't have to call it a declaration of war for it to be a war. When people are getting killed by the US military using deadly force, and having returned fire, it is a war. Based on your comment, I guess you would say that we didn't go to war in Korea, Vietnam, Afgahnistan, Iraq, and Bosnia. I'm just curious what you call it.

Thank you for admitting you were wrong.
