I have been seeing a huge crop of blackberries on the side of 30A between Grayton and WC- are they safe to eat or have they been sprayed? When I went for my walk today, I saw someone pulled over and picking a bucketful. And they look yummy.

The son of the owner of Heart & Soul has been eating them on the way home from school. He picked some for the girls yesterday (and subsequently they wanted to pick some today), but I made them wait until I washed them at home before they could eat them.

That was my thought too.... SJ, you have a garden that would be organic if it wasn't in SoWal, what do you think?

They are probably as safe to eat as the tomatoes in your yard which are also being sprayed. I showed one of my dogs the berries last year, and he loves them. He loves to live off the land. He can tell the ripe ones from the unripened ones, and doesn't seem to be stopped by the very sharp stickers.

OrganicMama, I don't wash them. I figure I am just building up my poison, and maybe I will secrete enough in my skin that no skeeters ever bite me. Yes, except for the poison sprayed by the County, my garden would be organic, and recycled.

Looks like we were posting at the same time.

So, you're saying that the certified organic bug spray that I spray on me and the kiddies can go, just let them run behind a spray truck, or eat the heck of out the blackberries on the way home? :floor: They'd have poisonous runs if I let them eat as much as they wanted to!:funn:

And, just in case, if anyone wants to discuss the safety of spraying, please pull the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) on each chemical and e-mail them to me. The manufacturers have to produce MSDS on any chemical they are using. You'll even find them on a TON of your basic "safe" household products.
