I just couldn't resist using this thread for a much needed charitable & environmental plug. It is also the EASIEST charity to make an online donation. No registration, etc., just click and go.
"Donations go toward public awareness and education projects; manatee research; rescue and rehabilitation efforts; advocacy and legal action in order to ensure better protection for manatees and their habitat. Many manatee mortalities are human-related. Most human-related manatee mortalities occur from collisions with watercraft. Other causes of human-related manatee mortalities include being crushed and/or drowned in canal locks and flood control structures; ingestion of fish hooks, litter and monofilament line; entanglement in crab trap lines; and vandalism.
"Ultimately, however, loss of habitat is the most serious threat facing manatees today. There are approximately 3,000 West Indian manatees left in the United States. Please support the protection for manatees and their habitat and to keep other environmental laws strong. It doesn't matter whether you live in Florida or outside the state."
Let's help save the Manatee and educate our children. Thanks ~
P.S. The site has great, inexpensive gifts like excellent children's books, plush toys, calendars, mousepads, etc.
