Traffic Backed Up to Owls Head 7-11-09

New posts
It wasn't so much good news as a traffic jam - because the lights were out again and the WCSO was directing traffic.

The lights weren't out. They were working fine, but the Deputies were directing traffic anyway. They turned the lights off after they got there.I think they were trying to give the vehicles heading south more time then the light was allowing.

Why can't we just reprogram the lights? :idontno:

It just makes traffic go slower when they have to direct it and I'd rather the personnel and budget $$ were being used for something else.

I've been saying for a long time that the deputies need to be directing traffic on these crowded road days where the majority of the traffic is moving in only one direction. It may actually prevent accidents, so I happen to think it is great use of a deputy's time, as it takes less officers to direct traffic than to work wrecks.

According to ShallowsFuzz, the backup southbound is becoming a regular weekend event. I was used to it going northbound in the mornings, but southbound was always pretty smooth.

Guess I'm going to Destin instead of DeFuniak tomorrow :bang:

I go south on Saturdays around 9 am and it is backed up from DFS to Freeport for the most part. Then when I go back to DFS in the afternoon around 2 it is backed up the other way. Has been the last few Saturdays.

Oh, guess that wasn't good news. Wonder why they were out? I hear numbers are still up and okay at some of the resorts, etc. so glad business is doing okay. We actually had traffic from I-10 on down. The light might have just added to the issue as we got further south. Beach was great today, though. Perfect water and weather.

Traffic lights, while certainly good some times, have the effect of lower the trip counts of roadways and increasing congestion. Seems like everything has an unintended consequence.
