Walton County seeking input from residents & visitors...

Opinions about transportation along 30A

Walton County is currently conducting a study regarding public transportation and roadways in South Walton, particularly along County Highway 30A. The study will evaluate travel habits of locals and visitors, leading to greater understanding of current interest levels in South Walton. Everyone is invited to participate online and the survey only takes a few minutes. To take the survey please visit http://waltontransitsurvey.com/.

Along with Walton County, local organizations Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization and the West Florida Regional Planning Council, are guiding the study. Conducting the study is Atkins Group.

For more information on the survey and study, contact Walton County Public Information Manager, Louis Svehla at svelouis@co.walton.fl.us or 850-951-7107.

Rickshaws, London double decker bus, Monorail???

More craziness from Walton County.

Here's your solutions:

Walton needs to get into the parking and towing business.

TDC needs to STOP creating useless office jobs and start buying up property for parking (393 at 30a for starts).

Parking is FREE for locals and those homesteaded here. This is done by an annual permit issued to each owner. Two per household. If you park at a beach access without one, you are subject to tickets and or tow.

Tourists and visitors PAY to park at accesses. Feed a meter or scan card. No pay, get ticket.

Generates revenue and will pay for its self after one Spring Break.

Towing will also be ramped up. Multiple violators or illegally parked vehicles get removed, not a 48 hour warning sticker.

This will create increased revenue and new jobs for people.

This will force the consumer to solve their own parking problems (at least at the beach areas), by car pooling, biking, walking, using paid services (uber, taxi, etc), not traveling her with a separate SUV for each member of your family and others.

Local restaurants need to solve their own problems. Go contract with John "don't feed the addiction" Fitch for his services. If TDC wants / can chip in, fine, just not non bed tax funds.

Open a nice place off 98, plenty of parking there... 30a is full, no more room.

Thanks for trying to come up with a solution. However you are very negative. And not very realistic. Although I don't think Walton County is realistic either. I don't see a public transit system helping.

What does John "don't feed the addiction" mean?

What does John "don't feed the addiction" mean?

1) You appear to be too sensitive, if you feel I'm SO negative. I operate in the real world, not the one of Unicorns and Rainbows.

2) What's not realistic? I gave a solution, where's yours?

3) "don't feed the addiction" is John Fitch of Sunshine Shuttles catch phrase. If you've ever attended a BCC Meeting or Transportation Workshop, you'd have heard him say this repeatedly.

I'll wait for your solution to review.

John G, I think you have some interesting ideas. I especially think paid parking with passes for residents has merit and purchasing more land, both on 30-A and 98 has long been one of my desires. Off-site parking for employees with some sort of bus system paid for by the businesses is also a common sense solution.

Pay to park seems to work well down in the Clearwater/St. Pete area. Locals have passes, everyone else feeds the meter. What a common sense solution!
