What will be the most direct path to the new airport in P City?*

New posts
When the airport opens, the most direct driving route will be east on hwy 98. North on hwy 79. East on hwy 388. North on whatever street name they decide to name the entrance road to the airport.

There is talk about plans well into the future (20+years) to make hwy 388 continue to the west and come out at WaterSound on Hwy 98 in SoWal.

Right now, 98 and 79 (to 388) are four-laned. Any idea on when turn lanes in front of the airport entrance will be installed on 388? Is there a construction schedule to four-lane 388? Just went that way last week (Aug. 21, 2009)and observed that 388 is two-lane between 79 and 77. It seems that 79 will be a main access route for South Walton and Panama City Beach to the airport, while Panama City or Port St. Joe will be coming up or in using 77. The extension of 388 to South Walton and WaterSound will be useful. Anyone know if there were follow up reports on the meetings held to discuss this 388 route into Walton County? Once that route is established, then the most direct path for many in South Walton will be east on 98 and then 388 to airport. This should cut the drive time to under 30 minutes. Very nice.

who cares!!! this airport only hurts this area. the history behind this airport is disgusting. this area willl soon no longer be a small beach community. i get a kick out of those that think this airport will somehow bring down rates. for all those who fish west bay, get used to the sound of airplanes and traffic. but st joe got what it wanted and it always will. oh the things people are willing to destroy to save on driving time.....only in america

kkddbb,
If you want to post your thoughts of the new airport, please start a new thread and post away. This thread is about the most direct route to the new airport.

I'm not the boss. It is good to be passionate about things. I think many would agree with your post -- just start a new thread. I'm sure it will be a great discussion.

For one it wouldn't be 388 as that's a county road. ;-)

My understanding is that JOE is donating the land and possibly building the actual road.

As to the widening of 388 and turn lanes there was discussion of trying to get the state to take over maintenance of 388 and it never went through. So it's up to a cash strapped county to take care of. One would assume the the new airport would be installing it's own lights and turn lanes like any other new large development.
