Lightning? Strange noise? 4:15am

I'm in SRB, near 98 on 393. At about 4:15am this morning (Sunday Oct 22), during the little thunderstorm we were having there was one really strange/intense noise. It woke me out of a dead sleep and I could have sworn it had to be a plane crashing. It lit up the sky and sounded like a huge crash. It wasn't like typical lightning.

Did anyone else hear it? It was so crazy that I made my husband get up and go outside to look around in his underwear!
I'm guessing it was lightning, it just didn't seem like it at the time.

Hmm. Maybe so. Or something like a microburst? Don't microbursts spawn tornados? :idontno:

I'm extremely sensitive to enviromental sounds and motion. That sounds crazy, I know. So, I'm probably overreacting

We heard it! I was sure it hit right outside our window, but didn't see anything when I looked out. There was no rumble just extremely loud cracks!

Oh good! Now I can tell DH I'm not crazy.

I was pretty sure in that instant that I was about to see the second coming of Christ or something. :floor:

You're not crazy...I heard it, too. It woke me, and I looked on weather.com, tv, and the board to see if it was anything serious. At 4:15 there was no mention anywhere. It's nice to know I'm not imagining things!

I heard/saw it too. I had gotten up to use the bathroom and it looked like I had a strobe light in the room. I don't recall too much noise, as the lightning was so distracting, but I did hear something that was out of the ordinary.

Oh so Walton County was under a Tornado Warning early this morning?

Usually in areas of storms which are likely producing tornadoes, areas where there is rotation in the thunderstorm, the friction of this rotation will cause extreme lightning. This lightning is totally different than your normal thunderstorm lightning and it does resemble a strobe light.
