The
[FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]annual Scenic Corridor Association Cleanup Day offers community members an opportunity to show their community pride by helping us to maintain a clean and scenic thoroughfare. The SCA invites business owners, civic groups, visitors and anyone who cares about this community to come out and join this effort to clean the scenic corridor.

Safety vests, bags and pick up tools will be provided for volunteers. Transportation to pick-up sites will also be provided. Please bring your own work gloves if you need them.

The clean-up is much more than just picking up trash. It is about having a sense of community and taking pride in keeping that community healthy. Also, the clean-up serves as a great reminder of the little things which can contribute to the well-being of that community, as well as reminds us of our impact on the Earth.

In today's world, we need to do more than, "Don't be a litterbug." We need to pick up after the other litterbugs. Please come out and help support our wonderful community. :clap_1:

Let's hope it doesn't get cancelled this time like it did last time. The board chair took a drive down 98 and stated it wasn't dirty enough to deem having a cleanup.:bang: :bang: Meanwhile it took us four hours just to do one side of our stretch.

Kurt, when was this notice released? Bummer that I'm just seeing it today, one day before the event, or I would have rallied for the cause.

Yes, the Scenic Cor. Assoc. is a great cause, but because of the lack of participation and it being a voluntary group, the planning is almost non-existant. Heck, it is difficult enough for most of us to show up, let alone schedule and recruit volunteers. The Association needs more pariticipants. Unfortunately, due to the lack of mass promotion for clean up days, we tend not to have many people show up for clean-up days. If I didn't read Kurt's post, I would not have known about it either.

The Scenic Cor. Association is not alone in this problem. I b_tch and moan to the NW FL Blood Center, too, because they don't always call me to remind me of their blood drives, even though I give blood every time I can. When they do call me, it is usually the night before the drive, and that is not always enough notice. After discovering that I missed the last blood drive donation (now I have to wait another two months before they come back to town), I emailed everyone possible at the NWFL BC about my frustration with their lack of having a schedule available more than one month out. They always send out a thank you after donating, but I told them that I would rather have a reminder notice sent out before the drive. (and they wonder why more people don't show up -- HELLLLOOOO!!!) Anyway, I did finally get a reply from the director with a tentative schedule for the 2007 donation dates. :clap_1: "Help me to help you," I told them. (Jerry McGuire)

Now, if we can get the Scenic Cor Association to follow suite. They need a schedule made for the entire year, not just a sporadic pick up when it is noticeably needed.

i stopped waiting for blood drives and became an apherisis
doner. basically you can walk in whenever you like and donate, and you can donate up to 24 times a year, since white cells replentish so rapidly. it's like liquid gold to leukemia patients. check it out. not sure which branch has pheresis machines though.

I am not sure that the NW FL Blood Center does that, and they are the ones whom supply blood to the local hospitals in NW FL. I have donated on their ALYX machine but they don't always have it. It takes a bit longer to donate, but you can give twice as many red blood cells, and it replenishes your body with ??? so that you don't get woozy. I cannot keep up with all the stuff, but I think it separates the white and red cells on the spot, and allows you to donate more red blood cells at one time. Even though it take longer to give on ALYX, you are only allowed to donate every four months, rather than every two. I do it when I can.
