"When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it 'til
I satisfy my soul"

-- Steely Dan

I don't think the band was talking about the shopping day in their song, "Black Friday," but these lines do ring a bell.

I just heard that 137 million people will be out shopping across America today. Thanks, but no thanks.

Just got back. I am finished with all my shopping. :lie:

When Am and I left Valdosta, GA at 4:45am (est), there was a line around the Toys R Us!

I saw on a news station here in Atlanta, that some folks chose to skip Thanksgiving meals with their families for a camp out at a Best Buy in Buckhead, which was not only offering Black Friday discounts, but it was also the store's Grand Re-opening Sale after a few months of renovating. They had $200 HP laptops and other great buys on flatscreen tvs. I am all for saving some cash on things that I would like to have, but I value family time a whole lot more.

how did this happen to our thanksgiving and christmas holidays????
I think SJ was right here...it's a reference to a massive finacial disaster/stock market collapse. The lyrics do seem to work for other thoughts though. Hey, Larry Coker was deleted today. It's his Black Friday.....who is next??

I took part in Black Friday, certain to get the cheap computer at Best Buy. (What we were going to purchase was in "in-store" only item). My family and I leave our warm home at 3:30 to secure a place. I had been told I needed to get there by 1 AM, but not quite that crazy. When we arrived the line was ridiculous. I was told that they gave out"folders" and unless you had one, no chance of getting a good computer deal.

So we decided to stay a while since nothing was open. The police come out with bullhorns and say" Please leave the front of the building. If you do not you will all be sent home." :floor: die with laughter...too funny...like a tv show. We go to the side of the building and the line goes one block to the street. Needless to say we left and went to Krispy Kreme. Much better idea. We were home by 9 and napped the rest of the day. I am fairly certain this was our first and last predawn BLack Friday shopping evetnt.
