Florida off-shore drilling to be voted on

New posts
You actually think that allowing off shore drilling will save the wetlands?

Are you not aware of the detrimental environmental impact of drilling in the Gulf?

You are not concerned about Gulf coast drilling 100 miles off shore?

Well so much for your credibility.

Ecopal...any comments on the passing of the offshore drilling bill passed by Republicans and Democrats yesterday?

Be nice. Ecopal loves his SOWAL like the rest of us. One thing I have learned from this thread is we will NEVER iron out sound energy and/or environmental policy by the typical "Go eat granola, Hippie" and "The Right kills baby ducks for fun" crap. I have learned alot on the energy issues thanks to Ecopal, even if he was tempted to name call instead of back his arguments with hard facts. Another thing that struck me today, as I drove through the wetlands to Lafayette, is that the bipartisan support in congress largely came from congresspeople who actually VISITED New Orleans and the coast after Katrina, and saw first hand what was at stake. With that said, I challenge anyone within reasonable driving distance to come see where the money will be going. Seriously, it is 4.5 hours at most from the Red Bar to NOLA. Come visit...and don't go to the French Quarter...go to the demolished underbelly then drive through the marsh to the Gulf. Spend 30 minutes on the Mississippi River levee and look at the shipping traffic. Come to appreciate that drilling for oil and incredible biodiversity are NOT mutually exclusive. I will be here and be happy to provide (modest) accomodations if you need them. My offer stands for as long as I am here:biggrin:
