Where can I get me some free WiFi?

Beach Comber
I'm hoping to make a trip down during August. My boyfriend is glued to his laptop and may start having withdrawls by the end of the week if we don't have internet at our hotel/rental. I know Starbucks usually has free WiFi. Is there anywhere else we can stop for a few minutes so he can have his "fix"? Thanks!

I have not tried it, but I've been told that Starbucks charges for internet down here. There are plenty of places along 30A for free wi-fi. You will also be able to find plenty of unsecured systems.

Short list:
Fonville Press -- Alys Beach
Hibiscus -- Grayton Beach
Cerulean's -- WaterColor
Sundog Books/Central Square Records -- Seaside
Miss Lucille's -- Gulf Place
Amivida Coffee -- Seagrove

Apart from piggybacking on someone's unsecured system, there are a lot of rentals now with wireless routers, or at least a DSL modem. If access is important, I'd find a place to rent that includes internet access. Avoid the drive to one of the above.

Unless, of course, you want to limit your boyfriend's internet time.

I am posting from the Villas at Seacrest right now, where I've got a strong signal on somebody's network. I have heard that the Seacrest Cafe next door offers free wireless.

Last Spring when I was living in Inlet Beach, I was able to get the CityNet WiFi access. You have to pay, but they have reasonable fees and schedules. The only problem was you lose signal when it rains. Not really a problem here lately.

I was in between meetings yesterday and was in the same pickle. After a few attempts, I was able to get wireless sitting outside of the Starbucks at Rosemary. It was a weak signal at first but it worked out just fine. My wireless connections listed a nearby cottage as well as Wild Olives Restaurant...I don't know who I was picking it up from.

Also, someone mentioned Seacrest Cafe and I tried that. Definitely no connection from inside the cafe.

I think the blue mountain Subway has free wireless internet.
