In our high school work/school programs the jobs they are training for are mainly hospitality related. Many of the local jobs intended for a small portion of our local society are filled by the sole bread earners of the family. I think we need to bring in business that would require more training for it's workers, thus paying a better wage.[/quote]

The majority of business that require more training, thus higher wages are directly associated with industry. So are you welcoming a large industrial giant to plant their carcass in our neighborhood? A GM plant in Sandestin would be a beautiful thing......:rolling:

This is the case everywhere, not just at the beach. I really don't know what my kids will do for a living. This country no longer makes anything. The service industry is all that is left.

Once again you assume that everyone who works construction hates it and would rather be a doctor or lawyer. Obviously some people enjoy there "menial jobs" otherwise houses would be falling down all over the place due to people who had no alternative doing a crappy job.

Actually, I love construction. I like to build things. Happens to be my talent. I love the smell of sawdust! My daughter, however, wants to be a doctor. And only time will tell how well these houses that have been built will hold up, and not fall down all over the place. You would think that in a community as diverse as this people would be more receptive to the fact that one size does not fit all. Not everyone has the same talent, ability, or are capable of doing the kind of work that is available. I wonder about all the houses being built, and the rents associated with them. Do the buyers have a residual income that affords the amount of rent/payment, or do they plan on getting a job here that will pay it? I think Tom Thumb starts at about 9 per hour, can they make that payment on that kind of salary? Now they are competing with the foreign workers whom their employers get benefits for hiring, ie tax incentives, etc.

So, GM is the only giant available? I could have sworn they had a huge lay off?

So would you elaborate as to you vision of the type of business that needs to be brought into SoWal that requires more training and better wages if it isn't industrial related?

Actually, my occupation as the owner of low income rentals uniquely qualifies me for this statement. These people are doing the best they can, with what is available. Many are struggling to survive in this environment and seem to be ignored by those who could help. Trying to support a family without much opportunity to increase their wage is very difficult. They support my efforts to try to bring a better life for all citizens, not just the elite few.

If you waive their rent they will have alot more disposable income. hoor-rah:clap:
