Maybe leaving is the better option?
We left VietNam and it only took the loss of many Vietnamese lives and over 40 years to recover. Is that really what you want? Now, as an ex volunteer military man, tell me how we'll be saving our soldier's lives is. Most of them know their duty and understand their calling better than you do. I don't like us being in Iraq, was against going in from the get go but I'll be damned if I can fathom the "Cut and run" attitude of some of the Liberal attitudes in this nation and particularly on this board where so many have so much to be thankful for and such a wonderful lifestyle. I'm beginning to think I'm like 6th Gen and have no place posting on this board. I'm not talented as many are and too conservative for a lot of the nonsense I read here. It may well be that my time could be better spent elsewhere, but I do enjoy the discourse that transpires here. It's the utter stupidity and lack of common sense that I can't stand.

Look no further than your own backyard. We have been at it for over two hundred years and still don't have it right. (Witness the mess with OUR Congress and Administration) Yet, you expect the Iraqis to do it in less than two years? I don't think so. Tick tock tick tock. Give it some time and what else can you do anyway?

No, I never expected the Iraqis to do it, period.

I?m not sure what imaginary ?boogie-man? you are trying to invent here but my position is clearly stated over 9 or so pages of posts.

I think one of most glaring examples of ?utter stupidity and lack of common sense? is the way you have defined my opinion for me. Yet again, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Hey 6th, here?s what you wrote back in June:

Not much movement towards a ?Representative Government? in Iraq yet. Tick, tock. tick, tock. Looks like you are running out of time to salvage a democratic Iraq.

Plan B, anyone?

Yea, that was six months ago. Do you know absolutely anything about military history? It's not like Worlds of Warfare, or Risk, or whatever Nintendo based platform that has given you the idea that something of this scale can happen in a year, much less six months. What you didn't bold from my quote "It is a means to an end. We stabilize Iraq, we have a little more bargaining power." Where are we on that?

You tell me. Remember, you are the one who decided to regurgitate this subject now, not me.

Why don?t you start by explaining how a limited regional stability is going to overcome sectarian tensions? That is a question I posed to you 6 months ago and the best you could do was ?we negotiate from a position of power.?

Are we in this position of power yet? If so, why haven?t we been able to negotiate any power sharing arrangement between the various factions in Iraq?

Better yet, please clarify if you still believe we will see a democratic, united Iraq.

You said I was only posting things from conservative cheerleaders and neo-con think tanks. I just thought it was interesting that the Jane Fonda of the Democrats said the surge appeared to be working. As for negotiating from a position of power, do you believe that we have more capital to negotiate with now or 12 months ago?

I?ve been pretty clear about what I think about your ?cut and paste? abilities. Unlike you, I remain primarily influenced by facts, not by the opinions of others, regardless of their political leanings.

If I were you, I?d be less concerned with my opinion on our relative negotiating strength and more bothered by the ugly reality that no movement towards a sustainable democratic Iraq has occurred. The proof is in the pudding, after all.

Thanks for the early Xmas, present by the way. Tis? the season for a smackdown.

And I?ve been pretty clear what I think about your ability to disregard well-sourced, well-researched and well-documented newspaper and magazine articles and sworn Congressional testimony from folks long since stationed in Iraq with far more local contact, far more knowledge and far more deductive reasoning abilities for your own opinion based on a myopic world view and a vacation in the Middle East years ago.

Don?t go opening your presents before Christmas. I have neither the time nor the inclination to stick around and argue with a narrow-minded brick wall about things that have not yet played out. You could not or would not answer a simple question which is ultimately the crux of this debate, so what?s the point? Since this message board appears to be most of what you have going for you, go ahead and declare victory while I step away to more pressing matters than the temper tantrum and self cheerleading of an anonymous internet message board poster who?s shtick is limited to ignoring simple questions that tear down his argument and moving the goalposts while standing athwart documented evidence yelling ?Wrong? and attempting to take an intellectual high horse to works cited.

As the old adage goes, if the shoe fits...First of all I am glad you assume the audacity to think I was referring to you when I mentioned examples of utter stupidity and lack of common sense. But sadly, I wasn't, though considering your attitude regarding Iraq, maybe I should have been. I do not consider you "stupid" by any stretch of the imagination. But when you say, "No, I never expected the Iraqis to do it.Period"., I think it says more about your lack of hope, consideration and general acceptance of the present situation in Iraq, than your 9 pages or so of posts on the subject. I appreciate your knowledge and dedication to your point of view. However, I have the right to think it is wrong and I do. Only time will tell which of us is right and I will be patiently waiting. I am not going to say anymore to you on this subject as both our positions are quite clear and we will never agree on this subject even though we have and do on others. I am not like 6th Gen. and wish to continue this for the pure enjoyment of debate, so, this will be my last words with you on the subject.
