Living in SoWal/Realtor?

New posts
After living in many places, my hubby and I moved here a few years ago and live in Fort Walton. We love many things about the area, such as the pace of life, natural beauty, and friendliness of the people. However, we've discovered that we're not exactly in sync with the VERY conservative majority, and therefore don't exactly feel like we've found our home. We're accustomed to diversity and aren't looking for homogeneity, but a tad more open-mindedness would be a welcome change. We always enjoy visiting 30-A, so are considering moving there. Could I get some feedback about what it's like to live there full-time, not only socially, but also the realities of living there during peak tourist season?

Assuming we move forward, I'd appreciate any Realtor recommendations. Like everybody else, we'd like to work with someone that is experienced, knows/lives in the area, and is savvy about investment angles, legal issues, home construction types, financing, etc.

Thanks -- I always enjoy the candid advice and good humor of this board, so bring it on! And Happy Holidays!

I have lived here for 30 years and feel like it has its ups and downs but I love it!!!!! Many feel that the growth has been too much but it seems to be a problem everywhere I go. At least we have a ton of State land. This area gets crazy during the big holiday seasons but the payoff is incredible. Friday on the beach at Grayton I was by myself! SoWal rocks! Give it a shot! You will love it! I also may know a good Realtor if you need help!

I'm right there with you Beachgirl. I'm from Chicago, have lived in Utah and California, and settled here to be close to my family in Fort Walton and Niceville... I've been in FWB for 4 years, and I'm still not used to it. The more I explore 30-A, the more I love it, and feel much more at *home* while I'm there. I've been looking at moving there for the past year, had a few curveballs thrown my way to delay a move, but hoping that early 2008 is my time!

Sowal.com is a fun way to learn about the community too... you guys are great!
