Dogs in Sowal/at the Beach

I am glad there are such responsible dog owners in this area. I use to live in St. Simons Island Ga and dogs were allowed on the beach and most of the people were NOT responsible dog owners. In fact, there wasn't even a leash law there,

I have to tell you the beach got pretty gross when people brought their dogs. Not only did they not pick up the poop, but had they, there were no trash cans along the way to dispose the bags.

Their attitude is it will was out with high tide. (10ft tides there). It did't excite me that I would be swimming with the stuff and I was always worried about small children picking it up and putting it in their mouth.

It was one of the grosses things I have ever seen. I am so glad that the community is so dog conscience here. You have no idea how wonderful that is.

I must say I'm glad to hear that you can get a permit to have dogs on the beach. I AM a responsible dog owner, and it would be a major bummer to move there and not be able to introduce my goldens to the glories of the gulf! (Ooo, how's that for alliteration?)

And BTW.... the English major in me LOVED your use of the word 'effluvia'.

The cost of the license is $30.00 per year and each permit issued shall be for a period of one year and will expire August 1st of each year, with a grace period until August 15th of each year. Proof of property ownership and updated vaccination records must be verified at each renewal.

The beach dog tag allows you to walk your dog ON A LEASH, on Walton County beaches between the following hours:

Standard Time 3:00pm - 9:00am
Daylight Savings Time 6:00pm - 8:00am

Certain Beach Areas Prohibit Pets
State owned beach access areas, in Walton County prohibit pets on the beach! Please adhere to the posted signage in these areas.
