Should Walton County consider switching to Charter government?

New posts
I have been doing some research on Charter government, and so far I like what I am reading. I am finding out a lot of people I have spoken to don't know what it really is. I continue with my quest. Hey I'm trying to keep this thread alive a little longer.:D

I think the lack of knowledge as to just what it is would be the first hurdle. I researched it several years ago and thought it might be a good idea, but never could find anyone to get behind it. Getting the original petitions done would be a bit of a job, but still doable, I believe.

what about SRB becoming its own municipality. with nonpartisan council and a mayor? forget the county.

I'm all eyes/ears for any more info you or anyone else has regarding this. Thanks!

I remember a group of citizens from the south portion of the county (Santa Rosa Beach) looking into a charter govt (city) long ago, over 10 years ago, lots of news coverage on the subject, but the area was not prepared for such then. wonder if we're now ready.

I see no reason that people would vote to double their taxes be instituting another layer of government. I was speaking to forming a charter for the current county government and making some of the things that everyone seems to want done a part of that charte, such as recycling and a county attorney.

How could we keep our convicted political crooks out of the process any more than we do now. What safeguards would keep their cronies from taking over appointed positions?

Please advise as to which of our current elected officials are convicted crooks?
