we're scrambling to try to get down there the last week of july.. (PM me if you have a reasonable 1 week rental for 2 adults and a baby - preferably very close to the water and a pool would be a plus)

BUT

if we can't.. we're looking at Aug/Sept/Oct.. what's the weather like? We do need the water to be warm enough for baby, I think.

try to make it in July for sure! August is very hot and humid,September hot and dry,and October bad bad all around weather, you really want to avoid the beach during that time.
hope this helps:wave:

We've never been during any other month, so I have nothing to compare to, but August is beautiful when we visit. And much cheaper than rates in June/July.

August and September are the peak of hurricane season. That's nothing to stop you vacationing here then, but I'd suggest making sure your rental will be refunded if there's a mandatory evacuation.

The water is warm through October. After all, that's why there are hurricanes at that time of year.

Other than Labor Day, the crowds thin down a lot after school starts, beginning mid-August. You'll not only have less folks to contend with at the beach, but you won't have the long waits if you are eating out.

The weather is hot in July and August, pretty much so still in September. October is still very nice, easily swimsuit weather, just no more highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.

October is my favorite month! Gorgeous sunsets, less humidity, the water is still warm, the beaches and restaurants are less crowded and you can still get a sunburn.

:floor:You forgot to mention the alligators that comb the beaches looking for food and a place to lay in the warm sun.

Warning - If you visit sowal in October, you may never visit in the summer again. ;-)

Much better to visit in the fall - just make sure your rental is refundable in case of storm (not just a hurricane w/ mandatory evac).

Fewer people, cooler weather (still t shirt and shorts & beach weather but you don't sweat as soon as you walk outside), happier folks all around, better prices!
