Where are all the jobs

Beach Comber
Hi, I am a 26 year old female who just moved to the area. I have been here for about a month and have yet to find a job. I have experience in the hotel business as well as retail and customer service/receptionist experience. I haven't found much online and I have even started going in and filling out applications. I really wanted to get a job with a decent salary and it looks as though I may have to start applying at the malls.

Does anyone have any ideas or input on how to get a job here? I feel like no one is hiring and the places I do apply seem to overlook me. I was told I have a good resume so what am I doing wrong?

I have attached my resume for review and feedback.

Also I love animals and am willing to start at the bottom as long as i can get some interaction with them. If anyone knows of any Vet offices, grooming shops, or pet boutiques that are hiring...please let me know!

The local economy is feeling the pinch of the housing bust. Keep an eye on this site in the help wanted area.
There is also a local .com called emeraldcoasthelpwanted that might have additional contacts specific to your expertise. Several local papers will have job postings as well.
Good luck and welcome to the area. :welcome:

I would think there are rental management companies in SoWal or Destin that might be hiring, but you'll need to visit them in person. I doubt you'll find much advertised online. Also be sure to check out Intrawest in Sandestin.

This is the peak, or actually just past the peak of the summer season. Typically larger vacation rental companies start to lay off staff around Sept. 1. Hotel management start hiring before Easter, so now is probably the worst time of year to be looking for that kind of job....or any kind of tourist related business. Decent salary is relative...what do you consider a decent wage? If you came from a city, you will probably go into shock when you see what wages are paid at the beach. It's going to cost you to live in paradise.

Let me see....

Vienna Sausage

Livin in paradise

Wonder if a decent salary will take care of that????:idontno:

Possible Job Opportunities!

Wow, you sound just like me a few months ago! I also posted a thread that was very similar to yours on here! I got lots of great advice and feedback too. I searched and searched for about 2 months before finding something stable, but have had to take a pay cut compared to jobs I had in the past. I work for Sandestin now and it is great because of all the benefits they offer, so the pay cut sorta balances out. I would check out their website...www.sandestin.com/careers. I hope that this helps! Good luck...let me know how things turn out. Peace.

To combat rising commodities and fuel prices, the brewery plans to implement price increases to 85 percent of its beer volume in September and October with the expectation of growing revenue per barrel by 4 percent this year and next.

Time to tune into: "Making bio-diesel and homemade beer with Martha" ;-)

I don't have to make a fortune I just want to be able to pay my bills and anything under $10.00 an hour is not going to do that and preferably i would like to be making more than $10 an hour but that seems to be the average or above average for what I have seen. I understand that the peak season is ending soon but does that mean that I won't be able to find a job? This is ridiculous.
