One of life's disappointing moments

New posts
Do we really need to call ANYONE idiots for any reason?...even if they are, which I don't think many people on SoWal are. Ignorance is not stupidity, either. I don't understand the purpose of denigrating others, anyway. Will humans ever rise above the need to feel superior by insulting others with whom they do not agree? Do you really feel good about yourselves when you do that? Taking the "high road" always works better for me. It feels pretty good, too. Try it some time, it might work for you, as well.

Ok, I know it was on the harsh side but to me Beems comment was idiotic. I guess I could have used nitwit?? :idontno:

:welcome:Analogman, I do see that you are new here. In no way am I trying to be "superior" b/c of what I said. And I have taken the high road many times, sometimes I just cant help myself...;-)

I can't vote for Sheriff. But, I can say that calling other posters
idiots/stupid/ignorant, etc. is inappropriate at any time on a message board, especially sowal.com. Go ahead and use it at home, in a PM or among friends if you must, but please not here.

I am the one who originally said to Beems its a "stupid, stupid WAY" to determine who you will vote for. Either some of you can't read or your comprehension of what you read is way off, IMO. No one called any poster, lurker, person, newscaster or anyone else of the human species, "stupid". The reference was to a methodology, nothing more.

This was not the first time these words have crossed SoWals threads/posts. I did a search on SoWal for the word idiot and guess how many times Goerge W's name was associated with it? Plenty.

I dont understand why what I said is any different.

I see things that I think are stupid every day, such as voting for any candidate based on a single issue. So, Andy, I guess I agree with you. And, IBD, what you said is not much different from what I have observed since joining SoWal.com over a year ago and have quietly watched others post without posting much myself. So I guess I agree with you, as well. You both certainly have a right to your opinions and the freedom to express them in the manner you choose.

If you go back and read all of my posts in this string, I think you'll find that I have just expressed myself in a different, more general manner than many others do on SoWal. I was simply trying not to attack anyone's personal opinion or individual's methodology even when I strongly disagree with them. It's just not my way of doing things...and I have that right. I also have the right to attempt to influence others with my opinion, just as we all are doing here.

Even if I feel someone is an "unenlightened" being, and might disagree with them vehemently, I would never call them an idiot, a nitwit, or use any other derogatory term on a public forum. I just don't feel that's necessary.

Anyone else who does not agree with me may do as he or she pleases in any manner you choose. And I will stand beside you and defend your right to do so to my death. That's my way and I'm stickin' to it.

Analogman, I have NO problem with you or the way you think. I agree with pretty much everything you are saying.

When I posted my agreement with Andy's post, I was referring to WHAT was said, not who was saying it.:yikes: Speaking to the issues is ok, personal slurs are definitely not and in this case an honest appraisal would lead one to the conclusion that no one was calling anyone "stupid" or an "idiot.":idontno:

I personally could give two swats what people say about my voting practices, that is why I live in AND LOVE America folks, I can vote for anyone for ANY reason. It may be wrong, it might even be stupid, but if I don't like the candidate's haircut, tie, the silent 'e' on the end of her name or the way he posts his mug in newspapers it is my porragative...to do what I want to do (Thank you Bobby Brown for the lyrics).
I can honestly say that on more than one occasion I have been in a voting booth and knew nothing about a particular person's political platform, especially the races that aren't popular such as judges etc. and voted for him/her based on the (lack of) signs that I saw. I am not alone here either. Call me an idiot. Say that my voting practices are stupid. I still have the right/privilege to vote no matter what. See you guys the poll~I will be the one with the big fat smirk on my face.;-)

why i posted what i posted...

If he wants to be seen with bill o' , then thats his business. Birds of a feather and all that. I would cross the street to avoid the same air as bill o' . There seem to be a few good candidates, so there is a choice here. Mr Wise would be better that what we have, but I will look elsewhere. You can call it stupid, but I think if you watch hate tv you are the dumb one![/quote]

That is the problem with so many elections. People go by what they hear from others or see on the television. Just b/c DW was in a photo with O'Riley who cares. The people who do not vote for him just because of that reason alone are idiots. Plain and simple.

Its different to me because people calling George Bush an idiot (who does not post here to my knowledge) while distasteful to some is something that will just happen because (IMO) so many people are just plain angry and upset at the condition of our country and lives in America after the last 8 years. I voted for Bush twice...I may crack jokes, but still respect the Presidency...it's how I roll. I respected Clinton's Presidency, even after his stuff was found on the blue dress. (didn't vote for him)

Beemn's post (bolded) calls anyone who watches "hate TV"...dumb.

IBD's post (bolded) The people who do not vote for him just because of that reason alone are idiots. calls any voter in Walton County (many posters here are voters) voting a certain way...idiots.

I am not passing judgement on your ideas or opinions. I do not appreciate anyone calling members of this community inappropriate names. Agree or disagree with me...just please don't feel it is your right to call me dumb or an idiot, because I don't think it is the right thing.

I agree with Miss Kitty.

There is a difference in "name calling" of politicians and strangers who are behaving badly; and referring to friends and neighbors as idiots just because they have a different opinion.
