Candidate Guide in the Walton Sun

Not All were asked!

You bring up some good points Watcher. I'd like to point out that not ALL members support Mr. Brown. Yes he is the only FOP member running for Sheriff, but he also worked a lifetime in the dept where the local FOP pres. once worked. He also once worked side by side with the pd's top FOP representative. I wonder why our PD has no officers in the FOP! Hmmmm.
The authority the FOP appears to have should have been used with more respect towards the voter and other candidates. I doubt they met with each candidate and spoke one on one. It appears the major factor in the FOP decision was loyalty to membership and past coworkers, not qualifications as it should have been. And the support is from local and not the state body of the FOP.

Yahoodie, regarding the FOP endorsement for Rick Brown: How come he didn't contact the firefighters union? If a union endorsement is so important to him, why did he say "I don't give a damn about what the union says."(referring to the firefighters union). If he in fact doesn't give a damn about what the union says, it would seem that he has hoodwinked the FOP. Hat's off to ya, Rick. I'm sure the FOP would love to here your true feelings about the "union."

FOP endorsement of Rick should not come as a suprise. I suspect he is the only sheriff's candidate currently a member. The FOP has a long history in FWB as a fraternal organization. Rick's ties go way back to the 70's. An endorsement by the Imperial Royal Order of Woodchucks would be more meaningful.:floor:

Let me say this, Rick is one heck of a nice guy and a good cop. His campaign has failed but he has stayed out of the mudslinging and other nonsense, something others should take a lead from. Rick ran for all the right reasons and although I'll be the first to admit I took some pot shots at his campaign, he has been man enough to avoid embarrassing himself. I agree the FOP thing was no big deal, but at least he fought (cleanly) to the end.

You know his people will not be out stealing signs over the next 12 hours... But, WE'LL be WATCHING those who do:cool:.

I have been impressed with Mr. Brown in that he ran a positive campaign and stayed away from personalities. He will probably get less than 10% of the vote due to lack of name recognition and lack of money to fix the problem.:idontno: But he certainly has nothing to be ashamed about.

Agreed

I agree. However, that 10% is crucial and I hope in the future, good moralistic candidates can put their heads together and support one winner as opposed to several possibles. That is not to say a "spoiler" is still in the mix. Anyway, the voting public is not dumb. They may not all jump on SoWal with Cute names, but they read and they research. They have made an educated decision and we will have a new Sheriff in 2009. No one likes dirty politics, especially when your "dirt" is not even remotely true or valid as it relates to real campaign issues. Those two have learned and they can take turns kicking each other square in the rear.

The Sun has published a very helpful guide this week - check it out! All candidates were asked a couple of questions, then asked to respond and add their own comments, but keeping all responses to 500 words.

Some "highlights" :

BCC race- pay close attention to the answers to question about customary use of the beaches.

Also, all candidates responded except Cecilia Jones (she did provide a picture) and George Wallace Smith.

Superintendent- Carlene Anderson responded, Tricia Hutchison had "no response". Also, Anderson has a great response to the sex education question.

School Board- if you homeschool, I suggest you read Mildred Wilkerson's comment about the subject. Thankfully they all see the need for an improved sex education system, some at a more effective level than others. Mark Davis' comments are, as always, excellent.

Some of the Mosquito District candidate comments are, well, interesting.

I have not slogged through the sheriff candidates yet. That may have to wait until after I eat.

I haven't been able to find the candidate guide in last Saturday's Walton Sun, or on line..........it is a specail section?

It wasn't in last week's Sun. I think it may have been 2 weeks ago.

Last Thursday's Beach Breeze had a similar writeup, but with different questions. The two together helped me a lot.
