FYI - we don't like big letters.

I thought Joe Biden started off very well with the family stuff. If he had left it at that, I would have been impressed. Instead, I suddenly felt like I was in the kool-aid church with all of the chanting about McCain. There are some truths in what he was saying, but many of the comparisons were taken out of context, which is often the case in poliTRICKS. I've always said that based on anyone's vote on any Bill, one could come to opposing conclusions on "how" the politician voted, based on who described the vote.

Biden is in Congress. Surely he and the other ruling Dems in Congress could have stopped Bush, by not giving Bush power in the first place. Patriot Act also comes to mind. I guess Bush and McCain pushed that through by themselves. The President doesn't act alone. Congress also has a say, yet as a whole, they tend to agree with Bush on many things, looking at votes alone. They will preach one thing, and vote however they want, because most people never look at how they vote, and if you have ever read any Bill in its entirety, you will know that it is almost impossible to understand what a Bill fully means.

Biden and Dick Lugar (R) tried to stop Bush going to war -- see the Biden Lugar amendment. The entire government was caught up in the fear syndrone...
and the neo-cons took advantage of it.

Yes, Biden did try to stop Bush, but he didn't have enough of the other Dems to help him. Don't get me wrong. I may sound like I don't like Obama, Biden, and McCain, but there are bits and pieces of each person, with which I agree. I raised the red flag when Congress was freely giving power to Bush, not so much because it was Bush, but because of the potential for any President, Bush - forward into the future, to abuse that much control and power. I applaud Biden for putting on the brakes regarding giving the power to Bush.

I hear you. Just wanted to point out that some of the Members did try to stop the war; and I agree it is not just because it's Pres. Bush--that power should not be given to any president IMO.
If Pres. Bush had stuck with his "compassionate conservative--no nation building--find the people that knocked down these towers" I feel most Americans would have continued to be supportive of him.

But, we know what he did instead.

This is the big problem I have with Senator McCain--he has strayed from his "Maverick-Straight-talking Mac" to the third term of the neo-cons....

The agents of the likes of Cheney, Fifte, Addington and Wolfie are now running the McCain campaign...using neighbor Karl's playbook.

It's frustrating and IMO dangerous for the country.

I concede to the wisdom and experience of JOe about the "big letters". I am just extremely fed up with politics as usual in this county and in this country. To vilify and condemn a candidate because you do not agree with them does not make you right, it just makes you a bully. We desperately need to do something and it won't come from the current powers that be. JOe's point about the way Congressional Bills are enacted is just one example of how things are extremely broken in Washington.

Change has always come from the bottom up, not the top down, anyway. We need true revolution in Washington. No, I don't mean anarchy, I mean true democracy. Our Congress is now only in the business of raising money and running for office...not serving Americans.

Power corrupts...and I think we are seeing too much of the greed it creates in all forms of government we have allowed to control our lives. I think we should vote most of the 535 self-serving cynics out and start over. And if the newly elected ones don't serve us well, throw them out too! And don't get me started about campaign finance and procedural reform!

Just a dream I've had for quite a few years...a republic of, by, and for the people...not the powerful few.

And Interested Girl, I did not intend to give the impression of yelling at you with my big lettering. My humble apologies. You have the right to your opinion. But many of us are not doing better because of the downturn in our economy caused mostly by the current administration's neo-conservative, short-sighted policies.

analogman, I certain don't have wisdom and experience when it comes to poliTRICKS. I understand your frustration and think that many people, including myself are "fed up with polit(r)ic(k)s as usual," in our Country. If you think that voting for Obama will change the status quo of poliTRICKS in this Country, by all means cast your ballot accordingly. I'm not here to try and change that. I just disagree that electing Obama will change the status quo of poliTRICKS in Washington DC.

IMO, in order to change poliTRICKS in Washington DC, people must first get pissed off enough to take action. I don't mean simply voting. We must start by changing ourselves. Be the leader you want to see from gov't. Hell, while you are at it, be your own hero. (Everyone should be their own hero.) Don't rely on gov't to lead. Judging by many gov't actions, you could be led down the wrong path of life. The Gov't is supposed to be a power of the People, by the People, meaning that we all are our own leaders, and that we are our own government. There is an old saying, "man wait long time with mouth wide open for roast duck to fly in."

Get involved with the political happens on a local level for starters. You don't have to run for office. Know what is going on. Buy some magic glasses which allow you to see the strings attached to the puppets. Get pissed off. Write, email, or better yet, visit your elected County, State and National elected officials. That alone at the State level and beyond, should be a good start to get you pissed off.

I feel like that we rely on other people, not just gov't, to resolve our problems in life. We need to start looking into the mirror for help. We are strong individuals who are often fooled into believing that we are weak. Obama's keyword is brilliant, and am a hard-core believer in "change," for the better, but I'm not waiting on Obama or McCain to change my world. I'll work on changing it myself. There are many things in the world over which I have no control. I do have control over myself, yet even is questionable at times, but regardless, it is all I can control. Therefore, I will focus on that part. I will try to save for my retirement. I will try to pay for my health-care, I will try to be charitable, regardless of my own ability. I will try to play by the just rules. I will try to be a roll model. I will try to remember that others may be watching my example, as I try to be a leader. I will fail, but as Biden said last night, his father taught him "it isn't about falling down. It is about how quickly you get back up after you fall." If you aren't falling down, you aren't trying hard enough. I will make some less than desirable choices in my life. I will learn from them and call them lessens. I will try to be a teacher. I will try to take better care of the environment. I will try make life easier for the people around me. I will try to be neighborly. I will try to do the right thing. I will try to realize that by nature, we are selfish, and recognizing this, I will try to be more respectful of others. I will start with the person in the mirror. (I don't know why, but that Michael Jackson song is coming to mind -- "I'm starting with the man in the mirror...."

chorus:
I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
I'm Asking Him To Change His Ways
And No Message Could Have Been Any Clearer
Take A Look At Yourself, And Then Make A Change

Who knew that Michael Jackson had such a mind? All we ever think about is the effed up parts, physically and mentally. That song speaks volumes to another part of the genius behind the vale.

I agree completely. My previous post did change a little, but you beat me to the punch with your much appreciated advice. Now if I could just get this huge government yoke off of my neck, it would be a lot easier to straighten myself up and look at that man in the mirror...and easier to see the brighter future we all deserve over my shoulder.

BTW, I worked with Quincy and Michael on the Bad album (Man In The Mirror comes from "Bad") and am credited for it in the label copy. Glen Ballard and a memorable acquaintance of mine, Siedah Garret, wrote a great song when they penned that one.

I found Michael to be kind, generous and not at all as crazy as the media would have us believe.
