The Romans, in the midst of their expansion (into the existing universe, which didn't really have the right to exist before it was properly conquered by Rome) didn't notice that their years were 60 days short. I reckon that someone finally figured out that Christmas and Independence Day were too close together. This is probably when department stores started decorating everything so dad-gummed early.

Florida has more coast line in the Gulf than TX, so why not the Gulf of TX, if you want to push out Mexico?
