Who For Sheriff?

New posts

To all

I am a long time resident of Walton County and will be making my final decision soon, as to who should be the next Sheriff of Walton County. No matter what side of the political fence you?re on, I am sure that we all recognize that the person we chose for Sheriff will be the person we put our trust into to protect our families and property.
We all have our own criteria as to what we think a canidate should meet and I respect that. I am maybe a little old fashion or a little simple minded, but I believe (If I May Be Allowed to Use a Simple Illustration) that to be the best Head Coach of the team, you need to have some time playing the game you are coaching. I am not saying you have to be a Heisman Trophy winner, but have some basic understanding of all the position?s that have to be played.
With that said, I present the following questions to both Sheriff Candidate?s (and any one who may have the time to research). These are questions I have a need to be answered, so I can be better armed to make a better choice as to who I fill is better qualified to be the new Head Coach (Sheriff).
1. How many years of service do you have as a sworn Law Enforcement officer?
2. How many individual years of service do you have in the area of Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Drug Investigations ,K-9 , SRO,FTO?
3. Do you have a degree in Criminal Justice?
4. Do you have any formal training in the area of business accounting?
5. How many years have you served in the compacity of a line supervisor?
6. What formal training have you completed in the field of supervising?
7. Have you ever been the lead officer at a crime scene?
8. What formal training have you completed in the field of Crime Scene Technician?
9. Have you ever been lead investigator of a situation involving the death of a person?
10. What Formal Training have you completed in the field of Death and Injury investigation?
11. How many case?s have you investigated in the following areas?
Theft, Burglary, Robery, SexaulAssult, Child Abuse, Kidnapping, Missing Persons, Fraud, I.D. Theft.
12. What formal training do you have in interrogation?
13. Have many traffic accidents have you worked?
14. What is your formal training in Traffic Reconstruction?
15. What is your formal training in the area of Criminal Gang Awareness?
16. How many Felony arrest have you made.
17. How many of your Felony arrest received a convection in the court system?
18. How many misdemeanor arrest have you made?
19. How many of your Misdemeanor arrest received a convection in the court system?
20. What is the total dollar value of stolen property you have recovered for your victim?s?
21. How many kittens have you retrieved from trees?(This one for fun)
22. Do you fill you have the ability to recognize your own weak areas?
23. Do you fill you have the ability to recognize the right person for the right job?
24. Do you fill that community involvement is important to the success of the Sheriff?s Office Mission?
25. Do you fill that the Sheriff has a commitment to communicate with the citizen?s of Walton County?
26. Do you really want to be Sheriff so you can serve the people of Walton County or do you just want the title of Sheriff?
Folks the above may sound like silly questions to you, but they go to the heart of what the Sheriff?s Office does for the people of this county. My hope and prayer?s are that no citizen ever becomes a victim of a crime, but if you do I am sure you would want the best possible officer handling your situation. The quality of the lowest rank officer starts with the quality of the highest rank officer. Take the time and make the best informed decision you can when you vote for Sheriff. It is that important.

Your intent is good, but you do realize that to meet all of your criteria, one would need to (1) be able to pick and choose their assignments, (2) be allowed to attend all possible training, without having to seek authorization or time off, (3) be immortal, in order to live long enough to finish everything?

But that is a very thorough list. :welcome:

And there are many more questions we as (responsible Walton County voters) should be asking and finding out for ourselves about the people who are running for any office. Because so many lives will be affected by the decisions we make behind those curtains. If you want to know something about them, the best way is call them up and ask them yourself. Vote responsibly, ask and learn:welcome::wave:

Thank you for taking the time to read the post. Part of my reason for the post was to give some insight to the varied area's of responsibility that have to be perform by the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office is not a one dimensional organization. The chosen new leader should be the one who has demonstrated the most ability to to handle this type of organization. Again just a post to get people to realize there are more areas of qualifications that need to be looked at than just how many signs you have out , where the signs are placed and who your kinfolk are.
As to my listed criteria , I know no one could fulfill all of them. Thats why the new Sheriff must have the ability to recognize he can not do it all and needs to have the ability to delegated the right person for the right job,and it would be very interesting ,to me at least,to see how the two candidate's measure up to the list. If you have at least 10-ten years on the job, in Law Enforcement, then you have had some exposure to the different types of crimes , position's and training ( I will give some pass on the keeping of the finance books but you still should have had some exposure on how to handle your assign resource's). And I would sure hope they have made some amount of arrest in 10-ten years.

God Bless and prayers to ALL our currant and future leaders.
