"People" Holding Signs on 98

What is up with these people holding up signs on 98. i mean i am all for others finding jobs and working, but the other day in front of the Silver Sands outlet mall there were 4 of them sitting on the grass with a 50% sign propped up against the pole splitting a cigarette or maybe it wasn't a cig. But it really looks bad for visitors, they may think they are in F-dub.

These "people" are providing an advertising avenue.

If you've never lived in Houston you can't appreciate how little "panhandling" there is here.

The fact that you put the word people in quotes pretty effectively sums up your thoughts.

If you don't like the job they are doing, hire them for one you find less offensive.

Yes i will admit..it looks very bad when every 1/2 mile you see an 8 foot sign being held up by someone advertising something going out of business. The people holding these signs look very rough at first clance, just not what people are expecting to see when they come to visit. It is great to see others getting an oppurtunity to work, but i dont think its very benificial for 4 of them to be sitting on the ground not doing anything. How hard is that for you to understand.. i am not belittling anybody i just dont get it.

sitting. hmm. they could be dancing and singing while listening to their ipods, like the guys do here.

They are doing the same thing here in front of our Goody's that is going out of business. I for one am not offended in the least. Perhaps for that day they will be able to make enough money for a hot meal somewhere. Times are hard, and at least they are willing to do something, in 8 and 20 degree weather here!!!!

I believe it has to do with code enforcement. No off sight signs are allowed so I would guess if they are being held by humans it doesn't break code. Just a guess.:idontno:

...if you think this is bad, you're really going to get your nickers-in-a-twist when you see folks along the road selling apples and pencils for a nickel.

Welcome to the recession.

Yes, that is why the businesses hire the people to stand out there for a few hours holding signs (to get around the sign ordinance), but I think one would have to read the sign ordinance again to know if that is a legal loophole, or still a violation.

Give it a rest

Personally, I would not upset myself with this. I understand that living in Sowal is wonderful, but despite that fact, it is still part of the real world. Anyone who is from a city will vouch for the fact that you see these things everyday (I am bracing myself for the "well we don't live in the city"). At least they are collecting a paycheck. Also, the advertising obviously works, we are talking about it here. I'm sure the same people complaining are probably guilty of sticking one or two real estate signs in yards. You don't ever hear anyone complain about that. Man there is so much more to life than getting worked up over such petty things. Please excuse me if I can across rude. I hope all of you are having a wonderfuly day!!!
