Walton County School Boards Votes to Approve Religous Neutrality in Schools Manual

New posts
will this ruling affect the pledge of allegiance?

I belive that they do not say one nation under god in the pledge anymore. I think it is one nation under the flag.. Do not quote me on this as i have not been in school for a very long time. My niece was saying the pledge the other day and when i had her say it again i notiece the one nation under god was gone.

Absolutely nothing. I was just asking if this in any way entitles school educators the right to prevent free expression for students.

The injunction actually ensures the right of free expression by preventing district and school officials from promoting their own religious views in class, at school sponsored activities, and at school sponsored functions on and off school property. The right of students to freely express themselves is covered under the Equal Access Act, mentioned by Robert, which is a different animal all together.

I wonder how long it will be before the County Government stops saying a prayer before their official meetings? Lord knows they need all the help they can get! lol.

:lolabove:

but, are they listening to the answers they get?

Long overdue IMO!
I've never been prevented from praying whenever I feel like it - probably because I don't feel the need to put my religious beliefs on public display or force others to participate in them.

Whoa. Wait a dadgum minute.

I missed this in jdarg's original post, but as I was leisurely reading the article in the Sun at lunch today, the words no Baccalaureate stuck out like a sore thumb.

Sorry, guys, but that's absolutely ridiculous. Do we even have capping these days? Or are there too many kids for that now?

This is how I fondly remember graduation:
Awards Day
Senior Skip Day ;-)
Capping / Class Will on the Seniors' last day of school
Baccalaureate on Sunday evening
Graduation the following week.

It's bad enough that we no longer recognize Valedictorian and Salutatorian, and now this. Geez.

Yes they still have capping at WHS. We just do the Baccalaureate thing at a local church. It is a private function of the students and not the district.
