Be careful on 331 North tonight

ShallowsFuzz reports that the controlled (?) burn near Freeport has created heavy smoke between the north end of Bay Grove Road and LaGrange Road. He was between Sweetwater and Mallet Bayou Road and suddenly could not see the hood of his vehicle, much less the road or anything else. They were talking about closing the road, but I don't know if they have.

So is that why there were five Sheriff's units parked on the 331 bridge tonight, with flashing lights, with the Deputies appearing to be looking to the west?

Is this why Point Washington is so smoky this morning?

Is the burn actually controlled, or not?

yes, it was a controlled burn. The humidity has increased, making the temps about 15 degrees warmer this morning, but that heavier air also traps the smoke, closer to the Earth.

Bdarg saw this too, when it was still daylight. There were 2 deputies with binoculars, adn Bdarg thought he did see something in the water about 200 yards out.

It was night when I saw all of the cops, around 630pm. I did see the anchor light of a small boat a few hundred yards in the direction of where the cops appeared to be looking. That boat may have also been a Sheriff's boat or other Law Enforcement boat.

I don't think the two are related. I have noticed a large burn with heavy white smoke billowing from the concrete plant almost everyday this week. It is much worse today and even smolky inside the house.

The two aren't related, unless there is something I don't know (which is often the case ;-)). Fuzzy was just a bit unnerved last night coming home from working on the - uh - lead story in the Daily News and running into a wall of smoke/fog. He hates driving when he can't see.

Meanwhile, this morning I and my NoWal co-workers are having fun comparing whose hair smells most like a forest like from driving through smoke with the heater on...

We are finally able to open the doors to get the smoke OUT of the house!
