No comment! :D

I read the story earlier today and definitely was thinking that Lehigh Acres is NOT 30-A. It's a sad situation though. Possibly as much of their own making as anything else. I noticed the woman they chose to feature had overborrowed/overspent against a house she had owned for 18 years. Let's hope that one silver lining of this mess is that more people understand fiscal responsibility ... and more lenders cannot lend irresponsibly.

I perused a real estate agent's website in Naples and it is a remarkable site. I have never seen so many graphs. One of his comments is that eighty percent of the market is overpriced. I would guess that is true on 30-a as well. I view the new properties to hit the market a few days per week and IMHO, most are grossly overpriced. That suggests to me that there is still a reckoning to be had on 30-a. There is some fear but there seems to be more smugness, if that is the right word. This could be an interesting year. I will refrain from posting individual properties again. That did not seem to go over very well.

I noticed the same thing about the article (overborrowed/overspent). There are so many innocent people who are and who will suffer during this, but there are so many others who simply allowed greed to rule or had a total disregard for simple economics. I hate to be critical of people though because so many good people are suffering, but yes, that jumped out at me too.

The flip side is that in the comments section there were a couple of Lee County teachers who wrote very detailed, interesting analyses. They said the article was accurate and that a big problem was the naivete (or as they put it, lack of education) of people who thought if the bank was willing to lend them money then that meant they could afford it. I don't live in that world, so I don't know if that is a good assessment or not of why this happened. But they added that kids are truly going hungry -- wolfing down the free school lunch and breakfasts and suffering over the weekends -- and that's pretty hard to swallow.

Going without food tends to make it hard to swallow.

Does anyone else onboard ever get the feeling that Osama Bin Laden sees this as a victory? With his skill in propaganda he may be able to inject added instability PRN.
